Summer swims take many forms, from kids splashing in the shallow end to divers showing their skill on the diving board. All are rejuvenating and a welcome respite from the heat. These pools feature poolside structures—patios, pergolas, and pavilions—that provide ample shade and space for lounging before or after a relaxing swim.

This nautical vacation home in Seaside, Florida features many delightful details. On the upstairs balcony a boat inspired porch bed offers relaxation sans seasickness. Inside, blue and white stools bring a beachy feel to the kitchen counter. A compass wall detail in the powder room marks the cardinal directions of various landmarks. Outside, the house’s name (and motto) is emblazoned on a coat of arms composed of an anchor and surf boards. Even the paneling on the turrets is ocean inspired, with tranquil waves framing upstairs windows.

Sunshine is abundant in these solariums, but so is AC. These are comfortable, casual spaces to host a lunch, or to simply relax with a book. The exterior of the Del Monte sun room is detailed with iron ionic engaged columns and flanked by a parterre garden to match its French 18th century design. At the Chevy Chase Residence, natural light glints off a terracotta tile floor and a beautifully crafted chandelier adds an air of elegance. The solarium at the Longwood Residence exudes farmhouse charm, with a painted wood floor and wicker furniture.

Green, the color of spring, lends a natural feel to a transitional space, like the entryway at the South Boulevard addition. It is also an excellent way to bring the outdoors in. Green can be balanced by texture and warm colors, like the reds and oranges of the rug in the Table Rock Ranch mudroom, to keep a space from becoming too cold in character. The crispness of a good green makes the color particularly popular in kitchens, where a fresh atmosphere is key for inspired cooking.
