River Oaks Spanish Revival Inspired House

Houston, Texas

This Spanish Revival inspired home is designed to feel wholly at ease within its surroundings, balancing presence with quiet integration. The exterior of the home, with its primary façade and massing, responds to the rhythm of the street and park beyond, while the interior emphasizes clarity and thoughtful proportion. Light-filled living and dining rooms open onto expansive interior views and sculptural details, from a plaster clad fireplace to a ribbon like stair that creates subtle moments of visual interest. These interior spaces then extend beyond the stucco clad walls that define the home. An intimate courtyard, complete with brick tiles, a plunge pool, and a stylized fountain, create the ideal setting for gathering. This exterior material palette draws upon the traditional characteristics of Spanish Revival style architecture, comprised of stone detailing, red clay roof tiles, and bright stucco. The exterior facades are then complete with tent awnings, ornamental metal work and accented with olive shutters. Upstairs, bedrooms are connected by sunlit hallways, with the primary suite oriented to capture views of the nearby park. The result is a residence that blends elegance, livability, and a strong sense of place while fostering seamless indoor and outdoor living.

“Our goal was to contribute to the neighborhood’s architectural language with a home that blends in beautifully yet feels unmistakably fresh.”
